In 2015 Design Tasmania launched the inaugural Women in Design, with 14 invited female guest speakers from across Australia. The colloquium brought together design thinkers and doers to share their stories and thoughts on the subject and plan together for the future. The event merged panel discussions, in-conversation interviews, keynote presentations, a cocktail function, long table dinner and a curated exhibition at Design Tasmania, in Launceston, Tasmania.
The event was a huge success with over 75 attendees enjoying a weekend of networking, discussions with accomplished females in the design sector. The attendees walked away with renewed focus and feeling inspired in their own lives and practices. Last year the event topics focused on Communication, Networking and Education.
|“I took advice and inspiration away from the forum in both my professional practice, and in my emerging maker practice. I instantly felt more professionally confident and reassured that I work in a dynamic, passionate sector. I work for an organisation that functions in a closed minded approach, and the forum reminded me that the world outside was full of amazing women doing amazing things, and that I am part of that bigger picture. I loved meeting both speakers and fellow attendees, there was so much support, respect and collegiality in the room at all times. I’ve been thinking about further study for years, and if I can reshuffle my life to fit it in, I have the forum to thank for pushing me over the edge to do it.” Participant feedback
|“The quality of the event, attention to detail on everything, great catering, good diversity of speakers, great not getting all designers, we definitely need to learn from (and network) with other professions.” Participant feedback
